  • Overview

Andrew Murray was born on May 9th, 1828, in Graaff-Reinet, Cape Colony, South Africa. His father was a pastor affiliated with the Scottish Presbyterian Church. As a child, Murray witnessed his father's fervent prayers for revival, and he often read his family stories about Holy Spirit revivals. These prayers were answered in 1861 when a powerful spiritual movement swept through his congregation. Murray grew up delighting in God's Word. He became a preacher at age 17 and was ordained into the Dutch Reformed Church ministry at just 20 years old. His ministry was so spiritually fruitful that he quickly gained prominence and assumed roles of responsibility and leadership. A passionate evangelist, he devoted his life to reaching the most neglected populations, including interior African tribes. On several occasions, he risked his life to spread the Christian message. Author of over 250 books, Murray emphasized total and absolute consecration to God, prayer, and holiness. Readers will find these themes woven throughout many of the meditations in this collection. During the last 28 years of his life, he was regarded as the father of the Keswick movement in South Africa.
