In this issue . . . July 1914. Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria lies dead on the streets of Sarajevo, murdered in cold blood by terrorist gunmen. The fuse to the global powder keg has been lit. Czar Nicholas II and Kaiser Wilhelm II scramble to find a path to peace amidst a Byzantine labyrinth of interests, influences, and concerns. Can these two men, bound by blood, stop the march to war?
Meanwhile, the dashing young Captain Wrangel travels to the frontier to join his men. With the world on the brink, Wrangel must prepare his hard-charging soldiers for future battles—if he can prevent them from killing each other first! This series covers the triumph and tragedy of General Wrangel's journey through the most turbulent period of his country's history, from the battlefields of World War I to the years of terror that followed the Bolshevik Revolution. Wrangel, above all else, was one of the few men of his time who refused to bow to the terror.
