  • Overview

    ENGLISH DESCRIPTION

“Reality had become a web of lies, and Adalberto a self-described musketeer dedicated to the revelation, much deeper than a conspiracy, that Everything, Absolutely Everything, is False.”

After a series of romantic misadventures and the chance discovery of artificial flavors, Mexican journalist Adalberto Pérez becomes firmly convinced that nothing is true. He embarks on a frenzied quest to reveal the world’s lies, but the scope of his task is infinite, extending to the news, food, sports, politics, the law, even the weather forecast. Adalberto soon finds himself questioning the very meaning of his own life.

We tend to think of the Truth with a capital T, as an infallible balm for our all our pains and misfortunes, when in fact, the best way for healing them is often fiction. At least, that’s the solution Adalberto discovers when he meets Alicia Covarrubias, a woman from Spain who has never told a lie. Together, they set out to wrestle with reality’s falsehoods and create their own shared Truth.

Hernández deploys a broad range of narrative tools in this book, honoring literary tradition while giving free rein to the imagination. He invites readers to transcend convention in joyous self-discovery through reading, reveling in their habitation of an invented world.
