In this new Mercury Carter thriller, the self-styled freelance mailman crisscrosses the Southwest as he juggles his latest delivery with his search for his father’s killer and for a missing fitness fanatic.

Mercury Carter’s current assignment seems innocuous enough: deliver a JurassiCat—a wildly popular and sought-after toy—to a three-year-old girl in Los Angeles, courtesy of her doting grandparents. The trip out west also gives Carter the chance to detour through Phoenix, Arizona, where the man who orchestrated the death of Carter’s father several years ago was recently sighted. As often happens with Carter’s assignments, however, things immediately go wrong on both counts and when he finally makes it to LA he finds the little girl and her parents held hostage by armed thugs.

In a pursuit that takes him first to Las Vegas and then northern Arizona, Carter chases down the thugs who disrupted his delivery and follows clues to a rash of disappearances and the cultish wellness community that seems to connect them.
