Overview
Lizzie Mitchell comes of age during a time when elders still recall the fight for independence in rural Pennsylvania…
Lizzie balks that her station in life will never change. She doesn’t want the isolation of the farm or the exhausting routine of providing for a husband and children, subservient to all.
Lizzie has a dream…
Lizzie finds her own independence as a teacher, though it requires that she remain unmarried. She turns down Tom’s proposal for marriage twice, despite falling in love with him.
But Tom can’t wait forever…
Rich in early 19th century American history, A Specter of Truth reminds us of the challenges, difficulties, and sorrows of the men and women who built this great nation. Join Lizzie as she learns the importance of friendship, courage, and strength while following her dreams at the French Creek Boarding School for Girls in 1818.
